Landscape Architect & Planner, Jones & Jones Architects & Landscape Architects
The most critical, and sometimes elusive, step in a community planning process is translating shared community values to concrete actions on the ground. At the Orton Family Foundation, we liken this stage in our work to the complex connective tissue between the soft body of a squid and its tooth-like beak. Without the gradient from soft to hard tissue, the squid tooth would be ineffective. Likewise, a gradient of careful, multi-faceted work is required to connect a community’s values with its planning decisions and actions for the future. In this session, you will hear from people who have experience integrating values and actions in community planning projects across the country. You’ll learn what challenges they’ve overcome, what challenges remain, and which tools or approaches might be applicable in your small city or town.
Steven Ames will moderate this session.
